Boston Regionals Logo Motion 2011

Robots by the C - MERHS Robotics team
Competes in US FIRST Boston Regional

April  7,8th &9th Robots by the C, competed in US FIRST(for Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Competition at Boston University's Agganis Arena.

It was an intense three days. With a rock concert/sporting event atmosphere, the arena was filled with team members and fans that provided an everlasting cheering squad for each team.   There were 52 teams from the New England area as well as from Canada and Turkey. Robots by the C had an impressive run. The arm and claw  performed with precision to place the inflated tubes  on the highest pegs to form the FIRST logo for extra points.  The drivers and pit crew worked feverously to adjust and tweak the robot when necessary. In the end the team didn't win the competition but did come home winners for building a successful robot and teamwork.

The team wants to thank ALL the supporters, advisor Robert Meltz, Mentors Gary Gilbert, Dennis Carlberg, Joe Halloran, Mory Creighton, Nick Ferraca, Gail Halloran, Pam Scarafoni, Sara Creighton and Dana Burnham.

And another thank you to the donors: Bernard Gordon, The Hooper Fund, The Spaulding Education Fund, Eastern Insurance, Pinpoint Laser systems, Cape Ann Savings Bank, Danversbank, Varian Semiconductors, and the  Rotary Club. Thanks also to Liz Brown Swanson who is doing a piece on the team for the Cape Ann Report on Cape Ann TV.

Look for the team to be displaying the robot soon at a location near you!

Team update

                                                                                                  Robots by the C

The Manchester Essex Regional High School robotics team, Robots by the C has just completed their robot for the US First regional competition in Boston. It has been an intense six weeks to say the least.

This year's competition  is called Logo Motion. It combines two robots in one. The challenge with many restrictions, is to be able to pick up an inflated tube and travel the length of a field and place the tube on a high peg. The more tubes your alliance puts up the more points you score. But wait, that's not all, you also have to build a mini bot that deploys from the main robot. The mini bot is to deploy from the main robot and climb a twelve foot pole faster than any other  team.

On February 22nd all first robots had to be packed up and shipped to a storage facility until their regional competition. Ours is April 7 -9 at Boston University Agannis Arena.

The town should be proud of this group of young people. In this after school program they have taken on a challenge of large proportions and with the assistance of an advisor and mentors have completed the task. Research, planning, designing, construction, programming, fund raising, and PR have all been involved in this project.   The whole process is much like a real company experience and  thanks to many the robot is ready for competition.

This year's team:  Captain Sean Halloran, Assistant captains, Peter Goulakos and Ben Scarafoni. Julien Gilbert, Adam Bailey, Ben Bichet, Tyler Burnham, Sam, Carlberg, Sam Creighton, Elise Doucette, Tucker Evans, Dustin Ferzacca, Sylvie Goldsmith-Solomon, Jacob Matrz, Dominique, Kevin Tofuri, Ben Wolsieffer, Eric Wright, Chris Wright, Cory Burnham, Ian Martin, Nathaniel MacLeod  and  Seb Wooding,  Advisor Robert Meltz, Mentors: Gary Gilbert, Mory Creighton, Dennis Carlberg, Joe Halloran, Nick Ferzacca, Chris Willaims, Dana Burnham Pam Scarafoni and Gail Halloran.

The team wants to thank  supporters: The Spaulding Education Fund, The Hooper Fund, The Rotary Club, Varian Semi Conductors, Eastern Insurance, Cape Ann Savings Bank, Danvers Bank, Captain Dusty's, and all the parents and friends who have supported the team.  If you would like to help support this awesome science and technology  group, funds are still needed to pay the bills.
